Boy Scout Group Uses Fake Names

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – A Boy Scout group in northeast Alabama says it sometimes registers youth by false names to protect at-risk kids. The Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America is under investigation for possibly inflating its membership. But in a statement released today, the council said it did not use fake names to create fictitious members. The F-B-I began investigating after a volunteer reported seeing a list of several children with the last name "Doe" on the roll. Others also started complaining about possible membership inflation. Higher membership numbers could lead to increased funding for the group.
