Attorneys Cross Examine Former HealthSouth Exec

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Attorneys for former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy turned their attention toward one of the prosecution's witnesses Friday. Former HealthSouth executive Ken Livesay pleaded guilty in the fraud case and agreed to testify for the government. Under cross-examination by a Scrushy attorney, Livesay said he will not go to prison and will pay 750-thousand dollars in restitution in exchange for his testimony. Scrushy's defense team says Livesay was among a group of HealthSouth employees who committed the fraud without Scrushy's knowledge. Fifteen former HealthSouth executives have reached plea deals with prosecutors.
