UAB Receives Dental Grant

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – The National Institutes of Health has awarded the University of Alabama at Birmingham one of three $25 million grants to conduct a series of studies that could affect how people undergo everyday dental procedures, including root canals, extractions and fillings. The seven-year grant will double the amount of federal funding at the UAB School of Dentistry and will pay for 15 to 20 short-term clinical studies conducted in collaboration with thousands of practicing dentists in a Southeast regional network. The studies will compare the benefits of different dental procedures, materials and methods of disease prevention.
