Former Cherokee County Judge Sentenced

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Phillip Jordan has been sentenced to six months in prison and must pay a three thousand dollar fine. The former president of the Cherokee County Commission was convicted in a public corruption case. U-S Attorney Alice Martin says Federal Judge Inge Johnson sentenced Jordan Tuesday. Jordan was also Cherokee County's probate judge when he was convicted last August for accepting a 65-thousand dollar bribe. He took the money in exchange for influencing a landfill deal in Cherokee County. When Jordan finishes his prison term, he'll be required to serve six months of home detention.
