Deliberations Continue in HealthSouth Trial-Day 14

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Jurors in the fraud trial of former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy failed to break through a deadlock Tuesday, on the 14th day of deliberations. It was the panel's fourth day of talks since reporting earlier in June that they could not make a unanimous decision on any of the 36 counts. The jury hasn't sent any more notes to Federal Judge Karon Bowdre since then. And deliberations are set to resume Wednesday morning. Outside the courthouse, prosecutor Richard Smith says he's encouraged by the lack of additional communication from the jurors. Smith says that could mean they're working through the charges. Scrushy is accused of orchestrating a multi billion dollar fraud at the medical services company over a seven year period.
