Governor May Call Special Session in July

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Lawmakers could be called back to Montgomery during the last half of July. Governor Riley says he's considering calling a special legislative session then. Lawmakers must pass a General Fund budget. The regular session ended last month without one when the Senate failed to consider it. The governor says he believes there will be enough votes in the Senate this time to cut off a filibuster and pass a budget. Senate President Pro Tem Lowell Barron says the governor's assessment will be correct if Riley's Republican allies vote with the Democratic majority.
