Alabama's Supreme Court Races Were Costly

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's most recent Supreme Court elections were among the most expensive in the country. A new national study by Justice at Stake and other organizations says Supreme Court candidates raised seven-point-four million dollars. That was second only to Illinois, whose candidates raised more than nine million dollars. But since 1993, Alabama holds the record. Candidates in Supreme Court races have raised more than 41 million dollars since then. Texas is second with more than 27 million dollars. The Justice at Stake survey suggests special interest politics have transformed Supreme Court campaigns in the state.
