Pell City, AL – Students at schools around the state are enjoying faster computer connections and upgraded technology on their campuses.
Gov. Bob Riley said Friday the faster speeds are critical for connecting students to online learning opportunities, video conferencing and multimedia education resources.
The Alabama Supercomputer Authority is monitoring Internet usage at each school system and will upgrade their connectivity for free as the system begins to max out their available bandwidth.
So far, 34 school systems have received the upgrades without cost to the systems and three more school systems are scheduled to receive the faster connection speeds soon.
Riley made the announcement while touring Pell City High School with State Superintendent Joseph Morton, Alabama Supercomputer Authority CEO Randy Fulmer and Melinda Maddox, who's director of technology initiatives for Alabama schools.
