Travelers arriving at the renovated Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport are going to get a taste of some of Alabama's history and tourist attractions.

Officials said an exhibit will honor the airport's namesake, civil rights pioneer Fred Shuttlesworth. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is designing the exhibit.

The Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham will provide an exhibit of rare artifacts and photographs from the Tuskegee Airmen. The airport will include a sample of the collection from the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, and there will be a children's play area designed by the staff at the McWane Center in Birmingham.

Officials told al.com (http://bit.ly/TLQ1Mn ) that the first of the new exhibits will likely be installed early next year, even though the renovation and expansion of the airport won't be completed until 2014.
