Temperatures plunged into the teens across much of Alabama, but forecasters say a blast of potentially colder air is on the way.
Low temperatures hit 16 degrees in Decatur and 17 degrees in Huntsville early Friday morning -- some of the lowest marks in Alabama Friday.
The National Weather Service said lingering moisture from rain and light snow Thursday evening created patches of black ice on some roads in northeast Alabama Friday morning. Forecasters said there was a heightened chance of black ice -- which can't always be seen -- in areas shaded by trees and in higher elevations.
Forecasters say a blast of cold air early next week could be even colder. Overnight lows are expected to be in the mid-teens in areas as far south as Montgomery by Tuesday.
