Forecasters say overnight temperatures across Alabama could drop into the teens or single digits as a winter weather system moves through the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. A hard freeze warning is in effect between midnight and noon on Tuesday.

An extremely cold air mass will hover over central Alabama through at least Tuesday. Overnight lows are expected to reach the single digits and 20s Sunday night, and the single digits in some areas Monday night. Daytime temperatures are expected to stay below freezing Monday.

Forecasters expect winds of up to 25 mph with some gusts of up to 40 mph.

Officials say the cold weather could have negative impacts on water pipes, exposed vegetation and livestock.
