It’s Alabama versus Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl. The committee that names the final four teams for the championship playoffs selected Alabama, FSU, Oregon, and Ohio State  for the semi-final games. The announcements comes after Alabama’s victory over Missouri in the SEC championship. Wide Receiver Christion Jones was quick to spread the credit around following the game….

“It feels great man! Proud of our team, our coaches, it feels great, man. We got a long road ahead, we know what’s at stake right now. We just know we put ourselves in a good position.”

Alabama had two hundred and forty two rushing yards during the SEC Championship game compared to just forty two for Missouri. We had production Assistance from WVUA-TV on this story.

Fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide are waiting for another announcement later today. Finalists for this year’s Heisman Trophy will be named tonight. Supporters of wide receiver Amari Cooper are wondering if he will be part of that group to go to New York City. Cooper caught thirteen passes during Alabama’s win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Despite breaking records set by Julio Jones and Ozzie Newsome, Cooper is quick to share the credit…

“Just positive thoughts, working really hard. I got to give a lot of credit to Coach Kiffin. He’s a great offensive coordinator. He draws up really good plays to put his playmakers in situations to make the plays.”

Cooper is already a finalist for the Walter Camp award for the best player in college football. The winner of that honor will be announced on Thursday.

Research in Huntsville may lead to better way to treat brain infections. An experimental chip being developed by CFD Research in Huntsville will be shown during the American Society for Cell Biology conference in Philadelphia. It’s supposed to help drug makers get around something called the brain blood barrier in people. The barrier filters diseases out of the blood stream. But it also keeps drugs from reaching the brain too. The chip from Huntsville could help researchers design better drugs for brain infections.

If you ever wanted to own a genuine cotton gin, your chance is coming. The historic Alabama site that housed Daniel Pratt's cotton gin factory is scheduled to go on the auction block later this month. The thirty acre property in Prattville will be auctioned off later this month at the Autauga County courthouse. The buildings date to the 1840s and 1850s. The Montgomery Advertiser reports interested buyers may want to redevelop the property. But city officials and preservationists want to save the site. Pratt founded the town of Prattville in 1839.
