Alabama community colleges are expanding their course offerings that prepare students to start and run their own businesses.

Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/10MrpTO ) the Alabama Community College System plans to add classes in entrepreneurship and support programs. Gadsden State Community College this semester rolled out an entrepreneurship program to train students how to deal with common financial and marketing issues.

Officials say they plan to launch similar programs at two-year colleges across the state, starting with pilot programs at eight to 10 campuses.

Community college system officials say they have also decided to expand the system's small-business incubator at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville. The incubator recently received a $200,000 grant under Accelerate Alabama. Long-term plans call for the Hanceville campus to become home to about 17 start-ups with 120 jobs.
