Representatives from Infinitus Energy and the city of Montgomery have broken ground on a $35 million waste recovery plant that is supposed to create 110 jobs.
The company based in Broward County, Fla., specializes in designing, developing, financing, building and operating waste recovery facilities. At the ground breaking, company officials said the Montgomery plant should eliminate 85 percent of the waste headed to the city's landfill. Mayor Todd Strange said residents won't have to separate their waste for recycling. All the separating will take place at the plant. Officials said city sanitation crews will continue to pick up waste from homes like they do now and they will take it to the plant.
The materials recovery plant is supposed to be finished around June 30, 2014.
