Suit Challenges 2 Amendments On Ala. Ballot

A Montgomery woman has filed suit challenging two constitutional amendments that are on Tuesday's statewide ballot.

Sandra Bell asked a judge Monday to block officials from certifying the vote on Amendments 9 and 10.

Bell says the proposals violate the very state Constitution they seek to amend. She is representing the Alabama Association for Judeo-Christian Values.

Amendment 9 would update a constitutional article on corporations. Amendment 10 could modernize language on banks, including removing mention of the gold standard.

The lawsuit asks a court to declare the vote unconstitutional. It also asks a judge prevent the secretary of state's office from certifying the results of the vote on the two amendments.

The state attorney general office didn't immediately respond to the lawsuit, which was filed Monday in Montgomery.
