A national coalition of evangelicals who want a path to citizenship for immigrants who not in the U.S. legally are running advertisements in the district of an Alabama congressman.

The Evangelical Immigration Table is spending $400,000 on radio ads on Christian and talk radio stations nationally, including in the Birmingham-area district of Rep. Spencer Bachus.

Those ads are playing while lawmakers are at home during the final week of Congress' summer recess.

A leader of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Barrett Duke, said lawmakers will return to Washington knowing they have support for changing immigration laws.

Organizers are playing the ads in the districts of lawmakers whose committees will figure in the immigration debate. Bachus sits on the House Judiciary Committee, where Republicans are drafting immigration legislation.
