State to collect unused prescription drugs

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — State health and law enforcement officials are asking the public to get rid of potentially dangerous prescription drugs that are expired, unused or unwanted. They are working with police and sheriffs' department in many towns to set up drop-off points for Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 26. Officials say the program is free and anonymous. Attorney General Luther Strange says getting rid of potentially dangerous controlled substances is an important step in fighting drug abuse and drug-related crimes. Officials say using the drop-off points is much safer than throwing the unused prescriptions in the trash or flushing them down the toilet. The drop-off points will operate from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. A list of drop-off sites is available on the state health department's website.
