Montgomery voters pick Polizos for State House

Election officials on Wednesday will count provisional ballots in a closely watched state senate race.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Montgomery County Commissioner Dimitri Polizos has won a runoff election to represent District 74 in the Alabama House of Representatives. Polizos won about 57 percent of votes over fellow Republican Charlotte Meadows in the election Tuesday. Meadows is the former president of the Montgomery County Board of Education. There was no Democratic candidate in the race. WSFA-TV reported 23 of 24 precincts reported results more than 3,747 of the district's roughly 23,000 registered voters cast ballots in the election. The 24th ballot box is provisional and is expected to be counted on Nov. 26. Polizos will replace Republican Jay Love, who resigned with more than a year left in his term.
