2014 field of political candidates smaller

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama's 2014 election is shaping up to be much different than 2010. The fields for statewide offices were crowded with big names three years ago and Republicans were fighting to end 136 years of Democratic domination in the Legislature. This time, Republican incumbents face little opposition. Republican Gov. Robert Bentley has one primary opponent and one Democratic opponent. He has raised $2.2 million, while Republican opponent Stacy George hasn't topped $2,000. State Democratic Party Chairman Nancy Worley says several well-known Democrats are considering entering the races, and she's not pessimistic. Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead says he's more concerned about people who aren't true Republicans running against Republican incumbents than he is about Democratic challengers.
