Study confirms Alabama as "low tax" State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A new study by the Tax Foundation confirms Alabama's reputation as a low tax state. The report says Alabama ranked 43rd among the states in state tax collections per capita in 2012 with $1,880 per person. The national average was $2,557. The report says Alabama ranked 50th among the states for state and local tax collections per capita in 2011. Alabama's average was $2,895, and the national average was $4,320. The study by the tax policy research organization shows the impact of federal funding on state government. It says federal funding makes up 37 percent of the state government revenue in Alabama. That's 12th highest among the states. The national average is nearly 33 percent. Mississippi is number one at nearly 46 percent.
