BUSTED! Montgomery man faces jail for tax fraud

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A Montgomery man has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for a tax refund scheme that involved more than 100 false tax returns. Nakia Jackson was sentenced Friday in Montgomery and ordered to pay nearly $213,000 in restitution. He was sentenced for conspiring to defraud the federal government and aggravated identity theft. Court records say he obtained stolen identifies from a state employee and used those IDs to file false tax returns. Then he worked with a bank employee to deposit the tax refunds in various bank accounts. Court records say he requested more than $400,000 in refunds.
