President Barack Obama's administration has announced more than $1.4 million in grants for Alabama organization helping people shop for and enroll in the federally operated health insurance exchange in Alabama.
Consumers are supposed to be able to start shopping Oct. 1 for policies that will begin Jan. 1.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced anticipated grant amounts Thursday of more than $202,700 to Ascension Health, which is the nation's largest Catholic health system; more than $501,300 to AIDS Alabama; nearly $326,800 to Samford University; $20,750 to Catholic Social Services in the Archdiocese of Mobile; and more than $392,300 to the Tombigbee Healthcare Authority.
Samford will focus on north Alabama, Catholic Social Services on Mobile County, and the Tombigbee Healthcare Authority on 18 counties in central and south Alabama.
