Governor Robert Bentley says that Shape Corporation plans to build a 24 million dollar plant in Athens. The manufacturer specializes in injection molding and roll-forming operations and has several other facilities around the globe.
The corporation will provide design, engineering, testing and manufacturing of metal and plastic solutions.
Bentley says Alabama’s Robotics Technology Park and AIDT’s workforce training services were two key factors in securing Shape’s partnership with the state. The corporation plans to begin construction on the new facility at Breeding Industrial Park later this month.
The Shape project will bring 170 jobs to the Athens area. The plant will be operational by summer 2016.
After more than 17 years as president of the University of Mobile, Dr. Mark Foley announces he will step down as head of the Baptist-affiliated College in 2016.
Foley announced his retirement at yesterday's meeting of the university's board of trustees.
Foley is a former truck stop operator who entered the ministry in the 1980s. He rose to become the third president at the University of Mobile.
Board Chairman Terry Harbin says the board has formed a search committee. Officials say the process to select the university’s fourth president is expected to take six to nine months.
