Ford: Alabama Democratic Party on 'life support'

The leader of Democrats in the House of Representatives says the state of the Alabama Democratic Party is on "life support."

House Minority Leader Craig Ford called for Chairwoman Nancy Worley and Vice-Chairman Joe Reed to step down today.

Democrats currently hold no statewide office in Alabama. Ford says voters will see few competitive races on Election Day.

Ford says the party can no longer afford leaders who neglect party infrastructure, candidate recruitment and "miss opportunities to present voters with our alternative to the Republican establishment."

Ford, who is weighing a run for governor in 2018, said he will not run for House minority leader again when his term in that position ends in February.

Worley called the criticism a "desperate attempt to grab a headline."
