PRATTVILLE, Ala. (Montgomery Advertiser) — An Alabama jail is getting a new tool to fight efforts to bring contraband into the facility.
The sheriff’s office is spending $125,250 for a full-body scanner for the Autauga Metro Jail. Inmates will be scanned by the machine as part of the intake process.
Jail Warden Larry Nixon told The Montgomery Advertiser that the scanner is needed for safety. He says it's not uncommon for people to to try to hide contraband on or in their person.
Nixon says they've found everything from weapons to cell phones to drugs during the intake process without the scanner.
