Alabama finishes Census count on par with most other states

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Officials say Alabama has completed the U.S. Census on par with other states.

An announcement from Gov. Kay Ivey's office says Alabama finished the once-in-a-decade headcount with an overall household response rate of 99.9%. That's the same level as 48 other states.

Door-to-door Census workers contacted households that didn't respond to surveys on their own. Things including federal dollars and congressional representation are determined by Census findings.

Ivey says she's hopeful that the response rate will translate into good things for the in the future. The Census count ended on Thursday.
