Amazon workers in bid to unionize at Alabama warehouse

Workers at the Amazon plant in Bessemer are looking to unionize.

The employees filed a petition to the National Labor Relations Board last month claiming they want to hold an election about forming a union with collective bargaining power.

Alabama is a right-to-work state  and Amazon has opposed efforts to unionize in the past.

The company said the warehouse, which opened in March, has created thousands of jobs that pay an average of $15.30 an hour with full healthcare insurance. Amazon also said it respects the rights of employees to join unions but that the group does not represent the majority of workers' views.
