Holiday weekend putting more cars on Alabama roads

Triple-A Alabama says that as the Fourth of the July weekend comes to an end, there might be some potential frustrations as people travel back home.

Clay Ingram is the Public Relations Manager for Triple-A Alabama. He said that the roads will seem more crowded than usual.

“Monday will most likely be the busiest day out of the group, because most people will be heading home that day," he said.

Many people will be heading home from their weekend destinations and will likely be on the road during the afternoon and early evening on Monday.

Ingram said gas prices might cause some travel strain this weekend on the way home as well.

“Our state average went up a penny a gallon over the weekend. We are at $2.80 per gallon here in Alabama," he said. "We are hearing we are likely to see a little bit of a surge in gas prices in the coming weeks, simply because our demand is expected to surge as well.”

This surge is expected to outlast the Fourth of July weekend, extending through much of the month of July.
