Alabama is going to get crowded this weekend. Labor Day is expected to bring big crowds of travelers to the Alabama’s Gulf Coast and through to Florida.
Clay Ingram, spokesman for the Alabama branch of the American Automobile Association, said that conditions on Alabama’s interstates and highways will be tight, adding that the association is bracing for a busy weekend of helping stranded travelers.
“We are going to have a lot of service calls, there will be a lot of breakdowns, a lot of accidents even, a lot of people getting stuck on the side of the road," he said. "Our service providers are gone be all hands on deck.”
Ingram said the pandemic bouncing back in Alabama and Florida may deter some vacationers. But according to Ingram some eager travelers might see this as their last chance to vacation before a possible new set of coronavirus restrictions are put in place.
Ingram said that travelers who want to avoid crowded roads should try to leave before the weekend hits.
“If you’re headed down there, you better plan ahead and leave early,” Ingram said. “It’s going to be busy, it’s going to be crowded. A lot of congested highways, and it’s going to be slow moving traffic, especially as you get closer to the beach itself.”
