Huntsville police want state probe after man dies in custody

Huntsville police are asking for a state investigation into the circumstances of a man who died in their custody.

The department said officers were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle on Tuesday when they encountered the man. He tried to run from police but was taken into custody and showed signs of possible drug overdose. Paramedics were called to treat him, and he later died at the hospital.

The Huntsville police department has asked the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation to look into the incident.
