The state announced a campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of electric vehicles on Monday.

The “Drive Electric Alabama” project is being coordinated by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. It aims to educate Alabamians about transitioning to electric vehicles and push for more charging stations for those vehicles.

Gov. Kay Ivey spoke at the launch of the campaign at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, saying she wanted Alabama’s economy to benefit from the manufacturing of electric vehicles.

Mercedez-Benz in Tuscaloosa County is reportedly investing $1 billion to produce electric vehicles, and officials at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant in Huntsville have indicated that they plan to produce electric vehicles in the future.
