An Alabama House member and the sheriff of Mobile County are arguing again about concealed carry permits.
Sheriff Sam Cochran endorsed a resolution to keep permits while speaking before the Mobile County Commission last week.
Republican state Rep. Shane Stringer of Citronelle, who spoke in favor of his proposal to abolish the state's permit requirement, is a former Mobile County sheriff's captain. He was fired by Cochran because of their disagreement on gun permits. Stringer has argued that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution allows for "constitutional carry" of firearms.
Most sheriffs across the state lobbied against a similar bill last year.
