Forecasters predict part of Alabama could see a dusting of snow this weekend. The timeframe for flurries is Sunday evening into Monday morning. Forecasters say right now snow will be possible in north and north-central Alabama. Locations farther south may be in for a rain-snow mix. Robert Boyd is a senior meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Huntsville. He says the forecast could change between now and Sunday but the roads should be safe to drive on.
“Since precipitation is going to be in the form of rain for the good part of when it’s occurring, it probably should eliminate ice from sticking on roads in those colder places. And also, if this system takes a turn more to the South and we have more cooler air than expected, it could be a different story, said Boyd.
Boyd says winds of 10 to 15 miles per hours are predicted on Monday. He says this could help prevent black ice on the roads and possibly reduce the hazard of motorists, unused to driving in winter conditions from sliding around on the road.

“We actually have a good wind going at least until Monday morning,” said Boyd. “About 10 to 15 miles per hour which should help evaporate any residual water before it freezes over, which will help with the black ice issues and everything.”
The National Weather Service in Huntsville said a half-inch to an inch will be possible across north Alabama with higher amounts in the higher elevations.
