New Director for Central Alabama Food Bank

The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama has a new Executive Director as of this week.

Kathryn Strickland is taking over after previously serving at the head of North Alabama’s food bank. During her time in Huntsville, that community’s food bank collected eight million pounds of provisions for the needy each year.

Strickland explains that they have a lot of plans for the Central Alabama food bank such as promoting healthy food choices and working with area farmers.

“As we look to the future, we are keenly interested in contributing to health promotion across central Alabama for residents and ensuring that they have nutritious food so they are able to lead healthy active lives.”

Strickland says the food bank is on the front lines of hunger relief in 12 counties across central Alabama. The group feeds over 60,000  area residents each year. Strickland says one of the main challenges the food bank faces is recruiting volunteers for a planned expansion into newly-served areas of the community.
