Space Symposium Blasts Off in Huntsville

Space enthusiasts will have a chance to speak with some of the top figures in deep space exploration this week.

The American Astronautical Society (AAS) is hosting the ninth annual Wernher von Braun Memorial Symposium in Huntsville today through Friday on the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s campus.

Jim Kirkpatrick is the Executive Director of the AAS. He stresses the importance of the environment the symposium provides.

“I think it’s a forum where people can express their views. It’s really cool, too, to have younger people be able to come up and shake hands with a NASA administrator and ask questions. We try to always bring in the question part of it and do networking events, like our receptions, where people can just talk one-on-one.”

The symposium will host panels and talks with topics varying from what the presidential election means for the space field to spotlighting millennials who are currently excelling in it.

The event is open to the public and attendees can register at the door.
