Alabama man accused of shooting at police is charged

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man accused of shooting at Birmingham police as he fled a traffic stop has been charged with attempted murder.

Police told news outlets Wednesday that 25-year-old Anthony Jonell Moore also is charged with discharging firearms into an occupied vehicle in the Monday shooting. Police say officers attempted to pull over an apparently speeding vehicle that night, but the driver fled.

They say Moore fired more than a dozen shots at the pursing officers, who returned fire. One officer was treated for minor injuries.

The chase traveled along interstates 20, 59 and 459 before Moore fled on foot into a wooded area. Police say Moore was tracked down Tuesday morning and found to be hungry and thirsty, but not injured. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
