Tuscumbia hospital celebrating 100 years with community event

The Helen Keller Hospital in Tuscumbia is hosting an event to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

A “Reels, Wheels and Meals” event will be hosted at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight. The hospital has been in the process of planning the festivities before the COVID-19 pandemic began. The theme for the celebration is “100 Years of Heroes.”

Hunter Nicholson is the marketing coordinator for Helen Keller. He said the event will start at six and have organized events.

“We are asking everyone to come at 6, park their car, grab their chair and blankets, pick a spot out in the fields and get some food from the food trucks," he said. "Come back, listen to a little bit of music before the movie starts and just have a fun night.”  

Festivities include a live concert from Mississippi indie band Bonfire Orchestra, a screening of Incredibles 2, and at least six food trucks. Nicholson also said the event will have precautions for COVID-19 in place.

“When they come to the event, the spot they’re going to pick will be food or family in the field. Then when they’re in line for the food trucks we are requesting people to wear masks," he said. "We’ll have many signs that say ‘social distance’ and ‘please wear masks while in line’.”

The first 500 people to arrive will receive a special prize and there will be other giveaways at the event.
