Tuscaloosa is having to spend $1.5 million to $4 million to repair damage to water and sewer pipes after Tropical Storm Claudette caused flash flooding throughout the city.
Between 4 and 8 inches of rain fell during the storm. Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox had to issue a water conservation order for a few days afterward because of a leak.
City officials said they hope to attain federal assistance to help pay for the repairs.
The Red Cross found that 45 homes were damaged by the flooding. Most of those homes were located in a Northport trailer park.
