Chief Justice Appeals Case to U.S. Supreme Court

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – State Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore has followed through on his promise to appeal his Ten Commandments case to the U-S Supreme Court. He filed a 31 page brief with the Court yesterday. Moore says the nation's highest court should rule on separation of church and state issues. He says the court has failed to resolve the issue in several instances regarding display of religious items in public places. In his brief, Moore asks the Supreme Court to hear his appeal. He hopes justices will allow his Ten Commandments monument to be returned to the rotunda of the state Judicial Building. Lower federal courts ruled his Ten Commandments monument was unconstitutional and could not be displayed publicly in the state building. The monument was moved in August. Moore refused to move it himself and is now suspended on charges of violating judicial ethics.
