More Soldiers Prepare for Duty in Middle East

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Another group of soldiers based in Alabama are being deployed to the Middle East. About 250 members of the 908th Airlift Wing at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base will spend at least 12 months on active duty. They will be serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Spokesperson Major Jerry Lobb says the Montgomery-based unit operates nine C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft. He says members of the 908th gathered Sunday to begin the mobilization process, but he was not sure when the unit would depart.
