Alabama Targeted for Pollution Controls

By Alabama Public Radio

Washington, DC – The Bush administration also is making efforts to reduce a form of pollution that often travels many miles from its original source. The Environmental Protection Agency wants to limit plant emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. The chemicals help create smog and soot. Federal environmental officials say the pollution can cause respiratory problems, especially in children and the elderly. The E-P-A's proposal would become final only after a comment period. Alabama is among 30 states targeted for the new restrictions.
