Montgomery, AL – New cost cutting measures being considered by state lawmakers could force state education workers to carry more of the burden of their health insurance.
The Alabama Policy Institute says insurance costs are rising fast and the state must make some adjustments. Education employees currently pay 2-dollars per month for health insurance, with the state covering the rest to the tune of around 610 million dollars a year. The Policy Institute has recommended that school workers pay 25-percent of the cost ... a move that would save the state an estimated 65 million dollars a year.
The group also says non-Medicare eligible retirees should be required to pay more for their health insurance.
