Montgomery, AL – A panel charged with studying education spending is recommending a freeze on the amount the state pays for health insurance for education workers.
The Governor's Commission on Education Spending presented its report yesterday. It suggests requiring education employees to pay more of the cost for their health insurance. It also recommends restructuring the system so employees could choose lower-cost insurance plans that would provide fewer benefits. The panel includes education and business leaders who looked for ways to save 285 million dollars in the education budget.
The governor says he will study the recommendations.
