Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Education Association is mounting a letter writing campaign against a recent recommendation regarding health insurance benefits.
The Business Council of Alabama recently recommended that state education workers carry more of the burden of their fast rising insurance costs. The recommendation came as state officials consider ways to avoid another budget shortfall next year. But AEA executive secretary Paul Hubbert the plan would cut the take home pay of school workers and would cut out benefits received by retirees.
Hubbert also says business interests have taken advantage of tax loopholes in the Education Trust Fund for years, and it would be unfair to make school employees pay more, while businesses pay less.
