Birmingham, AL – About 140 bow hunters gathered early Tuesday morning at Oak Mountain State Park. Park and wildlife officials say they hope the hunters are able to effectively reduce an overpopulation of deer. The bow hunters scattered throughout the ten-thousand acre park, which is just a few miles from downtown Birmingham. More than five thousand people paid a six-dollar fee just to apply for the hunt. Everyone who was chosen had to pay 50-dollars and pass a hunting skills test. Hunters will be allowed to kill a maximum of two deer per day during the hunt, which will conclude Wednesday. Guns are not allowed.
