Montgomery, AL – State lawmakers will gather in Montgomery today to begin the 2004 regular legislative session.
Meanwhile, Governor Bob Riley will deliver his State of the State speech tonight. During his address, the Governor is expected to unveil his Plan B, which will likely focus on government accountability measures and issues surrounding health insurance costs for state workers and education employees.
The State of the State will be delivered tonight at 6:30, and will be carried live here on Alabama Public Radio.
Meanwhile, Representative Mike Hubbard says he thinks the Governor will also use tonight's speech to ask the Legislature to recess for a special session.
But Representative John Knight says there's no reason for a recess. Knight says House leaders will make sure Riley's accountability legislation gets priority during the regular session.
Recessing for a special session would require votes of both the House and Senate. An unofficial poll of lawmakers shows borderline support for a special session.
