Montgomery, AL – The Alabama House continued to stall yesterday over a bill that would require groups to disclose the names of contributors in issue-oriented campaigns. The bill has tied up action in the House for three days, and Republican lawmakers are still trying to delay a vote on it. The proposal targets organizations that spend more than five thousand dollars on advertising in an issue oriented campaign. The groups would have to disclose the names of donors who gave more than 100 dollars to the effort. The bill's supporters are singling out the Christian Coalition of Alabama as an example. They say such groups should be required to reveal where they get their money to fight issues such as a lottery, gambling or Sunday liquor sales. Opponents say the legislation would intimidate people and dry up funding. Debate is expected to resume tomorrow morning.
