Anniston, AL – City officials in Anniston have delayed a series of public meetings that were planned to discuss payment options for plaintiffs in the area's massive PCB settlement.
The lawsuit, Tolbert vs. Monsanto, was settled last summer for more than 300 million dollars, and was one of a number of suits filed regarding illegal pollution from the company's west Anniston plant. That 300 million dollars must now be divided. Claims administrator Ed Gentle says delaying the meetings will give the more than 18-thousand claimants time to review their individual cases. He also says letters have been mailed to inform those affected of the meeting change.
Gentle also says says the public meetings, originally set for early this week, will be held in late summer.
