New Poll Looks at Attitudes on Terrorism

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – A poll of Alabamians has been conducted ... one year after the invasion of Iraq.
The statewide telephone survey of 405 adults was conducted last week, a few days after terrorists killed more than 200 Spaniards in a string of bombings on commuter trains in Madrid. The poll found that more than two-thirds say they believe another terrorist attack on the United States could come this year. But despite anticipation of another attack, more than 60 percent say the war on terrorism is currently going "somewhat well'' or "very well''. Many also say they are NOT sure if military action in the Middle East has lessened that threat. However, ... by a three-to-one margin ... most say they still believe President Bush would do a better job than Democratic rival John Kerry in protecting the nation.
The poll was conducted by the University of South Alabama and the Mobile Register. It has margin of error of five percentage points.
