Birmingham, AL – State prison officials and a former prison medical provider are expected to sign a settlement to a lawsuit later today.
The suit was filed by four H-I-V positive prisoners, who said they were not provided adequate health care at Limestone Correctional Facility. Inmate attorney David Lipman says former medical provider NaphCare did NOT provide adequate treatment and also contributed to the death of some inmates in 2002. State prison officials and the current medical provider, Tennessee-based Prison Health Services, say the health care in the prison system is in line with national standards.
A settlement to the lawsuit was reached Friday. Terms have not been disclosed.
